Is this what don Juan means by "morbid"? I was under the impression that the word meant more-or-less "diseased" -- as in one might be diseased if one obsessed about dreaming (i.e. did not maintain sobriety)

I think yes, that's what he meant. Or at least that's how I experienced it. My dreams had a dark, foreboarding, feeling to them and I was definetly obsessed. In one of his books it mentions that dreaming attention is stored in a spot in the roof of your mouth, and to access it you maintain the tip of your tongue on it. I would stay up at night trying to keep it there.
