I believe most physicists would say that the dimensions are strings are such that you would not be able to see them (mostly they are tiny).
However, most physicists would also probably say that nobody could see energy either.
To my understanding, strings are more like forces than particles, so I would go along with the not being able to see them -- i.e. I think LINES OF THE WORLD are something else, some manifestation of energy, of energy with its awareness even, that is more ineffable than what you get when you call them cosmic strings.
